Brittaney Orr, Junior Mass Communication Major spent Summer 2021 as a Public Affairs Intern with Explore Charleston. Her placement site was Charleston International Airport, located in Charleston, South Carolina. She received this internship opportunity through the Benedict College’s Spring Career Fair which was held virtually in February. Brittaney was one of thirteen students chosen from different HBCU’s to be a part of a new program created by Explore Charleston, called the Intracultural Enrichment Program (ICEP). Each Tuesday Explore Charleston would host networking events for program interns, to allow the interns to engage with some of Charleston’s most notable leaders and business professionals.
At the airport, Brittaney was able to assist with the launch of Breeze Airways, a new airline within the airport. She assisted with promotions of the airline on the Airport’s social media accounts, helped to create and design the airport’s velvet signage, prerecorded announcements to be played in the airport, provided customer service to passengers, prepped food for an airline, completed daily inspections on-ramps and runaways, assisted in creating posters and banners for airport’s social media pages. Brittaney is now assisting Explore Charleston in recruiting other interns from Benedict College.
