On April 5th, 2023, Benedict College, with the support of Interfaith America, hosted PLUS Day, the college’s annual day of service where students, faculty, and staff provide service to agencies in the Midlands. This year, Benedict College partnered with a larger service event called RAMServe, a collaborative service event bringing together service efforts from three other higher education institutions, Columbia International University, Columbia College, and Allen University. Over 800 students from various universities came together at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium for a kick-off rally and the group dispersed to provide service as one community. Approximately 243 students and 12 faculty/staff participated in the service event from Benedict College and provided service to the following community agencies: Passion 2 Pay Project, The Cooperative Ministry, James R. Clark Sickle Cell Foundation, Habitat for Humanity (Kershaw County), BC Tiger Closet, Edventure, Pinehurst Park, Transitions Homeless Shelter, and Keep the Midlands Beautiful. Benedict students provided over 1,215 hours of service to the community during this event and left the communities and agencies a little better than they found them by engaging in painting projects, gardening, community cleanups, kids’ activities, office organization, and resource distribution.
