Douglass Day Transcribing Service Experience

On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, students from Benedict College celebrated the chosen birthday of Frederick Douglass by participating in Douglass Day at the South Carolina State Museum. This celebration included transcribing historical documents for Mary Ann Shadd Cary. The museum was one of many locations around the world that came together to engage in service on this day. At the museum, students from Benedict College, Voorhees University, Claflin University, and the University of South Carolina, came together along with students from Richland County School District One, to transcribe an online collection of Black history and culture. This service project added new resources for everyone to learn about Black history by ensuring that this information can be reviewed digitally.
