Mr. Henry Simons has worked for over 20 years as a leader in the Support Services industry, which has provided him with expertise across vast aspects of support operations that include emergency management, supply chain, public safety, and security. With his success in leading multi-million-dollar projects, enhancing compliance, and adding services with disciplined cost control, Henry has a proven ability to develop leaders who operate effectively and autonomously.
Currently, he serves as Assistant City Manager of Operations for the City of Columbia, where he provides direct oversight of the Columbia-Richland County 911 Communications Center, Support Services, Fleet Services, and Parks and Recreation. Mr. Simons works directly with the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager on operational objectives and goals for the City of Columbia. These operational objectives allow him to manage over $25 million in annual operations budgets, direct project management efforts, and facilitate strategic planning for the City of Columbia.
When asked how did Benedict College or the Career Services department influence your life? Mr. Simons noted, “Benedict College gave me an opportunity to grow and mature as a young man. It gave me a sense of belonging and a hope for a brighter future as well as a sense of ownership by allowing me to take responsibility for my destiny and helping me understand how to thrive in society.” Mr. Simons’ advice to currently enrolled students is “Finish what you start, get your degree, ask for help if you’re having challenges but don’t give up on your future! Keep going.
